In France the car is still king, but this should put you off. Travelling by car in France is extremely easy in comparison to some of its European neighbours. Everything is very well sign posted so all you have to do is take your time take in the sights and look out for the signs.

Access to the Pyrenees Oriental is as good as it gets, with a variety of options presenting themselves. There are five major airports within easy reach of Amelie les Bains so you are pretty much guaranteed to find an air link a great price with a little forward planning, some great last minute deals are usually available too! Perpignan – 30 minutes, Carcassonne – 1 hr 15 minutes, Toulouse 2 hrs, Gerona 50 minutes and Barcelona – 2 hrs 30 minutes. Access by rail is about to get better also with the TGV arriving soon, which will mean that you will be able to be in Barcelona in under 45 minutes from the centre of Perpignan.

Amelie les Bains is located in the Tech Valley, roughly 30 minutes drive from Perpignan centre, in the heart of the Pyrenees Oriental, where the locals very much regard themselves as Catalan first and French second, which gives if a distinctive friendly feel. As the southernmost part of the Languedoc-Roussillon the region has many quality wine growers as well as a variety of Catalan towns and villages, as well as wonderful sandy Mediterranean beaches.
