There are many local festivals which take place throughout the year; each month sees its own celebration.

Carnival – Most towns have their Carnival festival in Feb, to coincide with the big Barcelona one.

Le Tour – The Tour de France annually swings by the region, generally you can catch a high mountain stage close by as well as the perennial flat stage from up to Montpellier.

Spanish GP – Usually held in May this is only a 2 hrs drive down the motorway from Amelie les Bains, with the Circuit de Catalunya on the French side of Barcelona.

Cherry Festival – Held in Ceret, the Cherry pickers and producers take over the town to celebrate everything to do with the cherry, sample everything from liqueurs to cherry pie.

Perpignan Marathon – to be held on the 31st of May 2009 – details at www.marathonperpignan.com
